Library
The St. Francis Xavier Library is a busy and active place
that supports the literacy program in our school. Our collection
consists of picture books, fiction, non-fiction, reference
materials, videos and teacher curriculum support documents.
Classes come to the library each week to participate in the
library program and to check out books of their choosing.
The library curriculum involves read aloud, research skills,
author studies, and literature appreciation in order to encourage
our students to read for pleasure and for information. The
library is also used for group presentations, team teaching
activities and special events.
Each year, the library holds a Book Fair, with the proceeds
going towards increasing our book collection. Students in
grades 5-7 are encouraged to join the Library Club, that meets
bi-weekly to organize shelf displays, catalogue books, shelve
books and assist the librarian. Parent volunteers are always
welcome in the library to help with administrative tasks.
